Cinematography

No film can be made without a Cinematographer. At FFVA, we help students acquire the ability and confidence by teaching the craft of cinematography.

If moving images fascinate you and you aspire for visual storytelling, you are already half way through. The intensive training sessions at FFVA ensure that you practice cinematography as an art. Frame composition, shot design and lighting are integral parts of the course.

You work in a team as a cinematographer, under the guidance of faculty who not only impart technical skills, but also help you capture the visuals required for the script in the most artistic way.  Hence, at FFVA, you grow with every project you do while learning in a film industry like environment.

Duration: 6 months
The 6 months diploma in cinematography students experience a full fledged training in cinematography from the basics till advanced, giving them the confidence to join the industry and handle projects

2 projects

The 6 months course trains students in script writing, direction, cinematography and editing, while specializing in cinematography.

The specialization allows the student to be the lead cinematographer for a short film project, which would be written and directed by fellow students, with film direction as specialization.

Month 1

Creative thinking + Storytelling

Brainstorming, ideation, characterizations are practiced rigorously so as to make you a creative professional and not only a technician.

Month 2

Technology & Implementation

Students start learning the technology and work as a team to create a 30 secs TV Commercial.

Month 3

Specialization

The cinematography classes starts with hands on workshops and practice sessions.

Month 4

Lighting & composition

The faculty makes the students immerse in lots of demo sessions and lighting for different setups.

Month 5

Production

You shoot your short film project as cinematographer.

Month 6

Completion & placements opportunities

Post-production of the project gets completed and preparations start for your placements in the industry. The FFVA placement cell works towards placing you as a cinematographer in the Film/TV or ad film industry.

The FFVA faculty comprises of chief technicians currently working in Indian film industry. Hence, the students are updated with
the latest industry events and technology.

Vijay Kartik Kannan is the DOP of the famous A.R.Rahman’s album song “Aabhi Jaa”. He assisted in the films Aravaan (Tamil), Dhenikaina Ready (Telugu) and many more. Currently he shoots ad films and feature films. His next tamil film “Darling 2” is set to release before March 2016. At FFVA he teaches advanced cinematography & lighting

Bagath has been associated with top-notch filmmakers. After assisting Rajiv Menon for three years, he worked as an assistant cinematographer for Mani Ratnam’s ‘Kadal’. He has worked for TV commercials of well-known brands like Aircel, Toyota, Chevrolet etc. He is the cinematographer of a Tamil feature film “Kaalaan” which is set to release in 2017. His expertise in photography and cinematography makes him one of the sought out artists in the industry

Imran is a well-known cinematographer in the film industry. He was the cinematographer for several music videos, TV commercials and award winning short films. He is the DOP of the Tamil feature film “Ammini” which is set to release in 2016. Imran also runs his own production house in the name of IAKR films. His short film “The Yellow Festival” was officially selected at three international film festivals, including the CEBU international film festival.

Job Opportunities

  • You will be an all-rounder with extensive knowledge in the core departments of filmmaking
  • After the course you will be working as a cinematographer in film production houses, ad film studios or e-commerce industries
  • FFVA also gives you the industry contacts, so that you can work as a freelance cinematographer
